Surafeal Asgedom is currently a Partner at Senai Transformation, LLC and has two decades of healthcare and technology experience executing creative solutions to drive strategic change reforms in the private sector and government.
Prior to joining Senai Mr. Asgedom was Chief Modernization Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), where he oversaw extensive digital transformation across three years through a ‘buy first’ approach to modernize the second largest federal agency with budget over $200 billion.
Mr. Asgedom’s leadership came during the largest transformation effort in VA’s history to modernize agency’s capabilities. He led VA Modernization by driving business integration and change management of enterprise-wide initiatives focused on overcoming a siloed approach to services in favor of a unified organization.
Mr. Asgedom promoted strategic partnerships and innovative technology to address business challenges and customer service by transforming the VA’s capabilities to deliver timely care and quality services to America’s Veterans.
As 2019 Disruptor of the Year, he was recipient of Fedscoop 50 Award honoring the top leaders in the federal technology space who have made a lasting impact on the nation.
Before he began his service at VA, Surafeal Asgedom was Corporate Vice President at Mount Sinai Health System with responsibility for corporate services, strategic planning and operational finance. He was an integral member of the leadership team that drove post-merger implementation of clinical operations, corporate services and health-technology to create New York’s largest integrated health system.
Previously at large health systems, Mr. Asgedom provided strategic direction and operational leadership across hospital departments and ambulatory services achieving results in revenue cycle, digital strategy, and operational efficiency. In addition to his leadership roles with healthcare organizations, Mr. Asgedom was a management consultant and recognized expert in strategic planning and tactical implementation across the dimensions of people, process, and technology.
Surafeal Asgedom holds a master’s degree in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University, an Executive Leadership certificate from University of North Carolina Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. He is certified Change Management Practitioner and a futurist passionate about emerging technology.
